- Problem
- Every Grandstand brand needed the same sports odds widgets, but each site has its own look, and custom design work for each one would slow every launch.
- My role
- I researched how competitors present odds, then designed widgets that fit many brands with very little customisation.
- Key decision
- We locked the layout and the odds, and let each brand change only the accent colour, fonts and light or dark mode.
- Result
- 10 widgets covering 7 sports, live on 8 sites, each added without design changes.
The brief
Same odds, many brands
Grandstand (formerly Gambling.com Group) needed sports odds widgets for its own brand sites and for partners such as The Independent. Every site has its own look. The widgets had to fit in with very little customisation and be quick for brand teams to set up.
I started by looking at how competitors present odds, to see the design language bettors already know and what we could learn from it.
Decision 01
What brands could change, and what stayed locked
Brands can change the accent colour, the fonts and light or dark mode. The layout and the way odds are shown stay locked.
Why
Locking the parts that carry the data kept the odds readable and consistent on every site, while the few open settings were enough for each brand to make the widget feel like its own.

Lesson
What one partner taught the whole system
What I learned
Partner brands needed one extra layer of customisation to fit their sites. Rather than keep it as a one-off, we built it into the whole system, adding dark and light modes and a transparent CTA option for every brand. A good partner request is often a feature everyone needs.
What I'd do next
Design the theming layer, like colour modes and CTA styles, into the system from the start, rather than adding it when the first partner asks.
